Testimony to the life of the official and initimate courts of the monarchs across the centuries, it embodies better than anywhere else the French 'art de vivre'. Discover the Renaissance masterpieces commissioned by François I, the major projects of Henri IV, the refined decoration of Marie Antoinette, Napoleon I's apartment, the splendour of Napoleon III and Eugenie, etc.

Situated in a park of 130 hectares, the château spreads its architecture around four main courtyards and is at the heart of three historic gardens including the largest parterre in Europe (11 hectares), the work of André Le Nôtre.

Château Vaux le Vicomte

The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a superb French baroque palace located 55 km south-east of Paris. It was bought and enlarged by Nicolas Fouquet, who became Roi Soleil, superintendent of the finances of Louis XIV and an influential member of his court.

In order to create the palace he dreamed of, he had to buy and demolish three villages, but ultimately his extravagance caused his downfall: he was arrested after a party became uncontrollable, leading to accusations of misuse of public funds.

The castle and its park have been open to the public since 1968 and, although they are less known than Versailles, they are just as magnificent.

The castle majestic architecture, characterized by the symmetrical lines, ornate facades and elaborate sculptures, reflects the extravagant taste of then time. The palace has more than 2,300 rooms, including the famous Galerie des Glaces, a 73-meters long masterpiece decorated with impressive mirrors and chandeliers.
